FULL-VOLTAGE MOTOR STARTERS are suitable for high inertia motors and motors having higher starting -time. Motor-windings are connected across supply-voltage as soon as starter is switched ON'. These are most economical devices to start and run motors having no loss-of-protection measures.
DIRECT ON-LINE STARTERS The motor-windings are directly connected across the supply voltage with the help of Direct On-Line Starters. It consists of Contactor and Thermal Overload Relay-assemblies as major inserts. Hydro Electricals provides Direct On-Line Starters upto 22kW / 30 HP at 415V in dust and vermin proof enclosures.

Ensure fail safe working in corrosive, Dusty, fluffy, shaggy, moist and powdery atmosphere Use of oil as interrupting medium results in cool operation. Continuous lubrication results in less wear.
Direct On-Line Starters consist of contactor insert assembled with suitable range of Thermal Overload Relay. This assembly is mounted on cast iron frame which provides rigid support. The contacts and magnet system are immersed in oil for continuous duty operation. The starters are dust and vermin proof. Adequate seals are provided at joints between cover, frame and oil tank. Oil tank can be taken down for inspection of contacts and magnet system.
STANDARD FEATURES Push-button operation of starters upto 15 HP and control switch operation for starters above 15 HP. Operation range : -20% to + 15% of rated coil voltage. Suitable for intermittent duty Class 30. Under-voltage protection below 40% of rated voltage. Adequate space and terminal sizes for terminations of recommended cables of either copper or aluminium, Easy to install and maintain. Enamel paints for weather resistance. Starter enclosure classified under IP-53.
OPTIONAL FEATURES: Manual-reset arrangement for Thermal Over-load Relay. Provision for remote control arrangement.
PROTECTION : Thermal Over-load Relays of suitable range protect motors from over loads. The relay knob should be set nearer to full load motor current for satisfactory protection.
Recommended delayed action cartridge fuses should be connected in line circuit prior to starter, for short circuit protection i.e.for current peaks more than 8 times full load current.

How magnastart works: The Mangnastart inducer consists of 3 coils wound on specially shaped steel cores. Eddy currents in these cores are reflected in the windings as an impedance which is dependent on rotor frequency. When power i s applied to the motor the frequency i n the rotor is the same as that i n the stator. As the machine accelerates, the rotor frequency and inducer impedance decrease. This results in a smooth acceleration to full speed at which point the sliprings are short circuited. The heavy mass of core material allows the inducer to absorb a considerable amount of heat. The advanced thermal insulation protects the coils which remains relatively cool and several consecutive starts may be obtained on drives with high inertia loads. Each of the coils have four connections brought out to studs on the front panel. By using star and delta combinations - up to 17 different starting impedances are available. The inducer can be set up to provide the exact starting characteristics required on a wide range of motors. Advantages of magnastart: Size: Though physically smaller than conventional systems, the large thermal capacity of Magnastart permits the starting of difficult and high inertia loads withoutany problems. Simplicity: Magnastart requires only one shorting contactor, reducing the overall system complexity, size and cost. Performance: Magnastart has no moving parts and does not use liquids or chemicals. Magnastart will give many years of service without any maintenace or adjustment. Reliability: The robust construction permits heavy usage under the most difficult conditions. Hydro Electricals oil immersed contractors starters continue to grow in demand because of the following advantages :
The Standard induction motor is run-up star connected at a reduced voltage. Its current intake and torque go down to one-third of those which would be registered with direct on-line starting in delta connection. Once motor runs upto speed, the motor windings switch over into delta and motor goes into normal operation with its winding carrying full voltage. The change-over takes place close to rated speed. The current-less interval is so short that it hardly causes a drop in motor speed.

CONSTRUCTION : The Star-delta starters have three contactor inserts, (Main,delta and star), mounted on cast iron frame. The thermal overload relay is connected in phase circuit and mounted on contactor terminals. The thermal timer located on base plate is pre-set for desired changeover operation. The timings can be adjusted between 3 to 12 seconds, The contacts and magnet system are immersed in oil tank and terminals are covered.
